Professional Experience

Graham was the Commercial Director for Northumbrian Water with responsibility for their procurement activity, covering £400m per annum spend incorporating the chair of the Investment Approval Committee.  This also covered the energy and net zero strategy and delivery.  

As well as the core business activities Graham had full P&L responsibility for the control of the commercial portfolio: operation of water, wastewater assets and anaerobic digestion in England, Scotland, Ireland and Gibraltar; a leisure business based around accommodation, food and beverages and fishing; and additional services to NWL’s household customers including FCA regulated activities; HomeServe insurance products and conveyancing data.​​

His experience at Northumbrian Water also included the management of the field-based meter reading team and developing the employee engagement of the team. In addition to being a programme board member for smart metering project.

During his time at Thames Water, he managed a number of innovative projects including the first UK bio-methane gas to grid scheme, the largest UK based floating solar array, the first UK renewable fertiliser (Struvite) recovery scheme.

He has a wide experience in developing new businesses.  At Thames Water he set up the B2B Water retail business. Previously he has set up a European energy trading businesses in Geneva and Copenhagen. 

Through his career Graham has had a wealth of international experience.  As well as having lived in Geneva and Copenhagen, he has been responsible for the operation of asset business in Gibraltar and Ireland.  This is alongside his role at BG Group where he was responsible for the energy portfolio including assets in North America, Italy, and the Philippines.
